Pre-School Children

Buttercup Room is home to all our two to four years old (four year olds still attending nursery class).

Within the Buttercup Room we cater for Flying Start children, non-Flying Start Playgroup children and Wraparound Children. Some children stay all day, some children stay part of the day, some children come every day and some children come twice or three times a week!

Our Flying Start and non-Flying start Playgroups times are

Morning Session: 9.15am -11.45am
Afternoon Session: 12.30pm – 3.00pm

Within these sessions children are offered a snack, children who attend all day or who are part of Wraparound have the opportunity for a hot home cooked lunch.

Flying Start and Non-Flying Start Playgroup is open during term time and three weeks of the summer holidays, however we aim to cater for families individual needs.

All children in Buttercup Room enjoy a huge range of activities and experiences planned by the staff within a Pre-Foundation Phase and Foundation Phase framework which also considers children’s individual preferences and developmental stages.

Children are assigned Key Workers who observe their play and this helps the staff plan activities and experiences that are interesting to the children.

The large airy hall has lots of natural light and a hard wearing floor to allow children to take part in messy play, role play, to investigate the natural world, to make their own pictures and models from reclaimed materials, to sing and dance, to develop large and small motor skills and to have lots of Fun!

During their time, children will learn by exploring, discovering, experimenting, participating and by doing. All of the activities on offer fall within seven areas of learning; Maths, Language, Personal and Social, Creative, Physical, Knowledge and Understanding of the World, and Bilingualism and Multicultural.

Children have the opportunity to explore the outdoors through Forest School, walks, visits to the Library, and the outside play area.

Children in Buttercup Room will need:

  • Suitable outdoor clothing,including Wellies
